How a drop-type cleaner works
A drop-type sieve cleaner is a plastic cleaner with drop-shaped nubs on its underside. As the plansifter oscillates, the cleaner bounces in the cleaning compartment and the nubs give the sieve cloth small taps from below. These taps make the cloth vibrate and dislodge particles stuck in the openings.
Triangular shape and movement
The cleaner’s rounded triangular shape lets it turn and slide to reach different points in the compartment. The holes in the middle let product flow through without building up underneath. A single cleaner can thus sweep a large area of the compartment.
Where it is used
The drop-type cleaner is the most widely used general-purpose type in mills. It works well on sieves with a medium to high tendency to blind, such as break and semolina sieves. On very fine, delicate flour cloths, softer cloth or brush cleaners may be preferred.
Checking for wear
- Nub height: as the nubs wear down, the tapping effect weakens.
- Flexibility: a hardened, cracked cleaner can strain the cloth.
- Broken pieces: fragments can jam in the compartment or risk entering the product, so regular checks matter.
Food-grade material is important to minimise the risk of wear particles entering the product. We stock drop-type cleaners to suit various compartment sizes.
