Why seeing the flow matters
In pneumatically conveyed mills, product moves by air inside closed pipes. So the operator can tell whether a line is running, choking or carrying a changing load, a pneumatic glass tube (sight glass) is fitted at chosen points. The transparent section shows the health of the line at a glance.
What the glass tube tells you
- Is it flowing: whether product moves steadily,
- Load: a sudden rise or fall in product density,
- Choke warning: product slowing or stopping in the glass,
- Product appearance: a first impression of colour and fineness.
Size and fit
The glass tube’s inside diameter must match the pneumatic line; a mismatch causes turbulence and build-up. Length and end form should suit the connecting rings and clamps.
Fitting and safety
Seat the glass tube with gaskets between the connecting rings without stressing it. Over-tightening cracks the glass. Replace tubes that are scratched, cracked or fogged; worn glass blocks the view and risks breaking. Where impact risk is high, a protective cage is recommended.
Send us the line diameter and tube length and we will supply the right glass tubes.
