What is a two-way diverter?
A two-way diverter valve is a two-position flap fitted inside a Y-shaped pipe branch. Turned one way, the flap sends product down one leg; turned the other, down the other leg. Product in a single flow pipe can thus be sent to two different machines or lines without stopping.
Where it is used in a mill
- Distributing a product to two machines or switching to a standby machine,
- Sending flour or bran to different bins or packing lines,
- Diverting flow temporarily for sampling, trials or maintenance.
What makes a good diverter
- Full closure: no product should leak into the closed leg, or products mix.
- No dead spots: no corners or cavities inside where product can build up.
- Correct branch angle: legs at an angle that lets product flow without hanging up.
- Durable spindle and bearings: the flap spindle should not develop play over time.
Operating options
The flap can be turned by hand with a lever, or remotely with a pneumatic cylinder or electric actuator. In automated plants a position sensor is important to prevent wrong routing. Send us the pipe diameter, branch angle and operating type and we will prepare the right diverter.
