What is a chrome Y-branch?

A chrome Y-branch is a Y-shaped stainless steel fitting used in flow pipe lines. It has no moving flap inside. Its most common use is to merge product from two separate flow pipes into one, for example collecting flour of the same quality from two sifter passages into a single line.

Why the merge angle matters

Where two flows meet, products must flow in the same direction without colliding or blocking each other. The more suitable the angle between the legs:

  • the lower the risk of build-up and choking at the junction,
  • the less wear on the inner pipe surface,
  • the better product keeps its speed and flows steadily downstream.

Inner surface quality

A smooth stainless surface and clean internal weld seams stop flour sticking and building up. Hygienic design matters especially for food safety audits and pest prevention programmes.

Fitting tips

  • Fit the Y-branch aligned and oriented to the line’s slope.
  • Avoid steps at connections; inside diameters must match.
  • A sight glass can be fitted below the junction if needed.

Send us the pipe diameter and required leg angle and we will supply the right Y-branch. If you need to route product to one of two lines, choose the flap model, the two-way diverter.

Frequently asked questions

What is a chrome Y-branch for?

It is a flapless Y piece used to merge two flows into one pipe, or to split them permanently.

Why do chokes form at the junction?

An unsuitable angle between the legs, steps in inside diameter and insufficient slope cause build-up at the junction.

Can a chrome Y-branch route product to two lines?

No, it has no diverter flap. Use a two-way diverter valve for that.
