What is a cloth sieve cleaner?
A cloth sieve cleaner is a sieve cleaner with a fabric surface, placed in the cleaning compartment under the sieve cloth in plansifter frames. As the sifter oscillates, the cleaner moves freely in the compartment and wipes the underside of the sieve cloth, removing flour particles that build up in the openings.
Why a fabric surface?
Flour sieves use the finest-aperture cloths in the mill. These cloths are sensitive to hard impacts; their tension can be upset or they can wear early. A cloth cleaner cleans by wiping rather than striking, so it:
- protects the life of fine flour cloths,
- does not upset cloth tension,
- runs quietly and leaves no marks on the cloth.
Where it should be used
Cloth cleaners are preferred on sensitive, fine-aperture cloths such as flour sieves and fine semolina sieves. On sieves handling coarser stock with a high tendency to blind, drop-type or brush cleaners may be more effective. Consider the product and cloth aperture when choosing the type.
When to replace
- When the fabric surface is thin, torn or hardened,
- When the body is broken or the fabric has separated from it,
- When the sieve shows lower capacity and blinding.
Replacing cleaners compartment by compartment during maintenance keeps all sieves performing equally. Send us your sieve frame model or a photo of the current cleaner and we will send the right size.
