The spring’s role in the valve
In jet filter diaphragm valves a filter spring sits on top of the diaphragm. It constantly presses the diaphragm towards the valve seat. When the cleaning pulse ends and pressure balance is restored, the spring helps the diaphragm close quickly and fully. The pulse stays short and sharp, and compressed air is not wasted.
Why the spring matters
- Short pulse: if the diaphragm closes fast, the pulse is short and strong and bags are cleaned effectively.
- Air saving: a valve that closes late uses more air than necessary every cycle, loading the compressor.
- Sealing: spring force helps the diaphragm seat even at low tank pressure.
Signs of fatigue
The spring compresses and extends every cycle and fatigues over time. Check it if:
- the valve closes late after the pulse and the pulse sound is longer,
- tank pressure drops more than expected during cleaning,
- the spring is shorter, rusty or bent.
Replacement
Renewing the spring together with the diaphragm is usually most practical: the valve is already open and both parts have done the same number of cycles. The new spring’s length and wire thickness must match the original; a stiffer spring can make it harder for the diaphragm to open. Send us the valve make or spring dimensions and we will supply the right spring.
