Why sifter sleeves are needed
While a plansifter oscillates in a circle, the pipes that feed it and take product from it are fixed. A connection that is both flexible and dust-tight is needed between the moving box and the fixed pipes. Sifter inlet and outlet sleeves do this: inlet sleeves feed product into the sifter, outlet sleeves carry the sifted fractions to the pipework.
Material and hygiene
Sleeves are in direct contact with food, so they should be made of flexible, washable, food-grade fabric. Product build-up on the inside can over time lead to mould and pest risks. Regular checks and cleaning when needed matter for both product quality and food safety.
Signs it is time to replace
- Tears, holes or thinning in the fabric,
- Flour dust escaping from the sleeve,
- Wear at the clamp area or the sleeve slipping out of place,
- Hardened build-up inside that cannot be cleaned.
A torn sleeve can mean not just dust loss but fractions mixing with each other.
Fitting tips
- Fit the sleeve with slight slack, not taut; it must absorb the oscillation without strain.
- Tighten clamps evenly; the sleeve should sit straight without twisting.
- Make sure sleeve length and diameter suit the connection points.
Send us the sleeve diameter and length or the sifter model and we will supply the right sleeves.
